Use Our Gutter Health Checklist To See If YOUR
Puget Sound Area Gutter System Is Up To Par
Some Gutter Warning Signs Are More Serious Than Others.
Here Are A Few To Watch Out For:
Through our years of installing gutters and gutter protection systems from MasterShield, we’ve learned quite a bit about how to keep gutters healthy in the Puget Sound Area. We’ve also seen firsthand WHY it’s so important to maintain healthy gutters.
Water damage can be disastrous for your home. It destroys wood and leads to mold and mildew growth. When your gutters fail, your siding, roofing, and even your foundation can pay the price. One way or another, faulty gutters are going to cause damage to your home. It’s just a matter of when.
Don’t worry, though! If you catch these signs early enough, you can hopefully avoid water damage altogether.
Your Gutters Are Cracking Or Splitting
If you are noticing pinholes, splits, or cracks, it may be time to replace your gutters. You may think tiny cracks wouldn’t make a big difference, but your gutters can only do their job properly if they are well sealed.
Small cracks and pinholes turn into bigger ones FAST. This will inevitably cause water damage somewhere, whether it’s to your siding, soffit, fascia, or even your foundation.
You See Signs Of Leakage At Joints Or Corners
If you notice algae, mold, or mildew at the connecting points of your gutters it’s a BIG sign they are leaking. This damage will often occur behind the gutter – soaking the fascia board, roof rafters, and soffit.
It’s only after that wood is soaked that the water drips down to the bottom. Long story short, this one could be a sign of SEVERE gutter problems. It might be time to replace your gutters altogether.
Discoloration Or Fading On Your Siding, Soffit, And Fascia Boards
If you see any sign of discoloration, peeling, or fading near your gutters, this is a MAJOR indication that your gutters are leaking. The finish on materials, such as siding, soffit, and fascia, is designed to withstand the elements, so visible fading means the problem is likely pretty advanced. This means it’s time to call Leafless In Seattle for an inspection.
You See “Tiger Stripes” On Your Gutters
Tiger stripes are the gray and black streaks found on the side of gutters. They mean the gutter is NOT working, and they typically mean that your gutters are overflowing. Overflows can occur for a number of reasons (dams, blockage, inadequate flow, etc.) and mean that you should get your gutters inspected ASAP.
You Notice Pooling Water, Trenches In The Soil Below, Or Visible Mold And Mildew
The purpose of your gutter system is to direct the flow of water AWAY from your home. Any signs of pooling water or trenches in the soil below your gutters indicates a problem.
Similarly, mold or mildew on or near your gutters or foundation is a sign of improper drainage. Either one could be a sign of a problem as simple as a clogged drain or as complex as a defect in the gutter’s design.
